  • 📡 It was built by the “inventor of radio”

The property that is now the Lodge at Marconi was originally built in 1914 by Guglielmo Marconi as a trans-Pacific radio receiving station—helping connect ships at sea with the rest of the world.

🌊 It sits inside a 62-acre coastal park

The lodge isn’t just a hotel—it’s part of a 62-acre state historic park overlooking Tomales Bay, with hiking trails, meadows, and sweeping water views all around.

🛰️ It once helped power global communication

At its peak, the Marconi station was a major hub for trans-Pacific wireless communication—basically early “global internet,” but with radio waves.

🪖 The military used it during wartime

After its early radio days, the site was also used for military communications during World War I, adding another layer to its history.

🌿 It has a very wild second chapter

In the 1960s–70s, the property became home to Synanon—an experimental rehab program that later turned into a controversial cult.

    🏕️ It’s had multiple lives

Over the years, the property has been a radio station, hotel, military site, rehab center, nonprofit retreat center, and now a beautifully restored boutique lodge.

    ✨ It was recently reimagined

After a major renovation, the lodge reopened as a modern coastal retreat—blending its historic bones with a relaxed, design-forward vibe.
